My melancholic playlist.

A friend asked if I’m going through a hysterical crying phase when I showed him my playlist earlier…geez boys never get it I tell ya.

I guess my taste in music has been a little…dark (?) lately. Not heavy metal dark but sad-music dark. I go through periods where I just feel like listening to a certain type of music and then after a few weeks I will move on to a different genre again. I can be very flexible like that. But right now I want my music to have that melancholic feel. That being said it’s not like I listen to it while sitting in a dark room obsessing about Leonardo DiCaprio and how we still haven’t met or anything. Not at all.

Let me throw a few songs at you so you can get in the right kind of mood.

This song is so different from anything I’ve heard lately, and I love her voice.

‘You gave me my very first gun’ = most random sentence ever, I love it.

Ok this one isn’t THAT depressing. Yes the lyrics are a little sad and stuff but the song has a sort of cheerful uplifting beat to it.

When I heard Lana Del Rey’s first single Video Games I wasn’t very impressed. She’s got a nice voice and all but I just thought Video Games was so boring. I didn’t get why she was getting so much attention. But then I heard this song and thought ‘Ah, there it is’. So yeah, I like her now…

Happy Hunger Games!

“And may the odds be ever in your favor.”

If I can recommend one book (well a series of books) it will be The Hunger Games! I seriously read the whole trilogy in 4 days cos it was impossible to put down once I got started.

The trailer looks awesome and the soundtrack is apparently perfect. Taylor Swift, Civil Wars, The Decembrists and many more contributed to The Hunger Games: Songs from District 12 and Beyond. A little bit country, a little bit indie and a little bit folksy. Perhaps not what most people expected but I am sure it will fit the melancholic mood of the movie.

My favourite song from the soundtrack is Just A Game by Birdy. Which unfortunately is impossible to find on YouTube right now so you will have to look it up yourself (OR WATCH THE MOVIE!). But seriously, look it up, you won’t regret it;)

I will leave you with my second favourite song from the soundtrack,

Never Let Me Go

Loves it!!! I have never heard a Florence and the Machine song I didn’t like but this song I LOVE!

I like the music video too! I totally don’t get it but I like it:) There’s lots of water, a gothic looking Florence, an emo looking love interest (yes Twihards that is Caius Volturi aka Jamie Campbell Bowers) and there is some very strange stuff happening at the end. What’s not to like right? The video fits the song perfectly.

You know, I don’t normally go for the emo looking boys but I would break into that skating rink with Jamie Campbell Bowers anytime!

If there is a God…

then please let my future husband and kids be exactly like these guys… please!!!!?

Middle finger

On my way home from work today, this woman tried to cut in front of me when we were getting on the bus and to make matters worse she banged her bag into my side, the woman was obviously packing lead or something cos the thing hurt like hell.

But the best part was when she heard my cry of pain, she turned to look at me and she was all GRRRR!

This is how I looked:

I quickly realised that the woman was just having a bad day, probably because she has to carry all that lead around. So now she was taking her anger out on the world by ignoring proper bus-etiquette and passive-agressively using that bag filled with lead on innocent bystanders. Why make her day any worse? So I gave her a big smile and said ‘Why don’t you go first’. This got her a little confused, she didn’t really know how to react. She looked like a deer caught in the headlights of an oncoming car.

She then softened and said ‘Sorry I bumped into you, but I was first in line’. Now that is all lies, ALL LIES but as I mentioned earlier, why make her day any worse. So I gave her an even bigger smile and said ‘Of course’ and then I let her get in front of me. She didn’t say thank you, probably too shell-shocked by my surprise politeness. But mentally I was totally giving her the finger.

Which in turn got me thinking of this song  I can’t think of a better song to play in this post… I am so putting this song on my iPod tonight so I can listen to it on the bus tomorrow!

Some sadness and some awesomeness!

So I know I have been very M.I.A. this month but I had stuff to do so don’t be mad. I always come back ok?! I started a new job this week and my head is spinning with all the new things I have to learn. It will be ok in the end tho. I hope…

So let’s talk about some of the stuff that’s been happening. Whitney Houston died as I am sure everyone knows by now. I went on YouTube and watched some of her old music videos. It’s so sad that she died this early, I think we still could have had many years of greatness from her had things been different. My mom’s favourite song is I Will Always Love You (her favourite movie is also The Bodyguard! A coincidence? – I think not!)

My favourite song of hers is this a capella version of How Will I Know, it really shows how strong and powerful Whitney’s voice was.

Other news, the 54 annual Grammy Awards went off earlier in the week and had many artists performing. We all know I have a little infatuation going on with Coldplay right? After watching their performance it’s safe to say my infatuation is still going strong. I would put up a video of their Princess of China performance with Rihanna but all the YouTube videos are a little dodgy and don’t really do the performance justice. So just trust me, they did good!

Bruno Mars performed Runaway Baby and was as always, awesome! He is a really good live artist, so good that I am putting him on my must-see-live-sometime-list.

And of course Adele. What can I say about Adele? She’s the queen, she is so much the queen she has actually gone over to being the king. She can do no wrong and sing live like nobody else. I love when a great artist comes on stage and shows all the other artists how it’s done! She owned that stage! You know, because she is the king.   Not the best quality vid but you get the idea. Awesomeness shining through here.

I will be back with more shortly so until then, have a happy Valentine day peeps!

Ass Back Home

This song must be very catchy cos I’ve only heard it once and the chorus part is on total repeat inside my head. Love it! I’ve never heard of Neon Hitch (the girl singing the chorus) but I like how she sounds! Way to rock your part and steal the thunder in a song girl!!

Enjoy the rest of your day as I am sure this song will stick with you too now as well :)

Samsaya, a Superhero who is Jaywalking

I’m having one of those days today so allow me to tell you all about it! The weather is quite nice today, the sun is shining and it’s cold but not too cold. No snow or rain in sight. I got up early to go to class and finished relatively early as well. I did some shopping before I went home and had lunch…watched some TV. I then tried a new hairdo, it looked ok. I’m not going to go on with my list of activities so cut to the chase, I am BORED out of my mind right now and it’s barely the middle of the day. Will this day ever end??? Hey wordfeud anyone?

There is one thing brightening my day tho, I have a new song on my mind. It’s been a somewhat slow month when it comes to getting songs stuck in my head (except Cityboy! That song is still sticking) but it is starting to pick up. The song I am humming today is by Indian-Norwegian singer Samsaya. She is awesome. Her song is awesome and her style is awesome.

She has another song playing on the radio all the time but I couldn’t find it on YouTube to post here so if you click this link it will take you to her website and you can listen to it there. It’s called Jaywalking! And it too is awesome. [http://soundcloud.com/samsayamusic/jaywalking"] Jaywalking is actually my favourite song of hers right now but hey, all her songs are good. You really do have to listen to Jaywalking tho, if not then this entire post has been for nothing.

Ok but seriously, wordfeud? Anyone?

A Perfect Mess

Who knew Mike Posner had such a soft side…

And such a nice voice! This is the first song of Posner where I’m noticing how his voice is actually sounding. And I like it! He should make more songs like this.

Not that I don’t like his other stuff, Cooler Than Me is epic but sometimes it’s nice to see other sides of artists.

I know I have posted this song before but for this special occasion I will reblog it a little bit. We all know and love Cher Lloyd by now right? She and Posner did a collaboration and the end result was With Ur Love which is a real cool song in my books. The video is very cute and easy-going, a perfect fit for the song. But every time I watch this video I can’t stop wondering if the girl in the red skirt is someone’s little sister cause how else did she manage to get in the video. She’s not bad or anything but there is a little something awkward about her at times.

Do you see it too?

Midnight City

I know I have gushed about M83 and their music before but turns out, I still have some ramblings about them left in me!

I first heard this song while watching an episode of the British reality show Made In Chelsea. Let me save you a whole heap of time, the show sucks! Don’t bother watching it, you can thank me later. Kudos to the producers or whoever picks the music though. Good work guys!

So after loving M83′s song Wait and Midnight City I went and got their latest album Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming (yes I know the album is old news now but better late than never right?) and let me tell you, it is soooo good! Why haven’t I bought it earlier? I love all the songs and my cd player have been loving them all weekend too. If you are into electro-pop then this is the album for you. Next single out will probably be this catchy little tune .
